Around the World! ☆ Kindy 1
2025/01/29
Greetings from Kindy 1! This month, our world has become much bigger, even bigger than IKA and Japan! We are learning about countries and the differences between them, and we are starting to understand just how big the world really is.
First, in order to travel the world from our classroom, we made our very own passports. We drew our own faces, wrote our names, and we've started collecting stamps from the places we've "visited" and talked about.
We kicked off our trip around the world by discussing our home base: Japan. We listed off things that are special to Japan; foods like udon and sushi, holidays like Setsubun, traditional clothing like kimono, customs like taking off shoes before entering homes, the Japanese language, and more! We really got an idea of how Japan is special, and we learned that not every country is like Japan! In fact, every country has its own language, culture, and way of life.
For our first international stop on our world tour, we learned about Russia!
We learned that Russia is the biggest country in the world, it's pretty cold, and it's not too far from Japan. We watched videos exploring Russian language, architecture, and culture.
"I want to visit Russia!"
"That's awesome! Why do you want to go there?"
"Because the buildings look so different! They are so colorful!"
In addition to adding a new stamp to our passports, we also got to make our very own Russian Matryoshka dolls out of paper! We colored our own design and started using scissors to cut them out.
It is so cool to learn about how different other countries are, and we LOVE using our passports. We can't wait to "visit" more places and get more stamps!
In other news, this past week we also practiced our monthly Earthquake drill. Except this time, we practiced as if it started during lesson time at our desks. We dropped down under the tables quickly, we lined up as soon as our teachers said it was safe, and we walked outside quietly. We did a really great job.
As always, we are growing and learning more and more every week. We can't wait to see what else Kindy 1 has in store, and we are SO excited for Kindy 2. Thanks for reading! We'll see you next time. ☺
