Setsubun Fun!! ☆ Small Kids

Hello! This is Small Kids!

This week's blog is really fun! We wanted to show you how we honored the holiday called Setsubun. This was one of our teachers' first time experiencing Setsubun, so she was really excited to do it with us. For those of you who don't know, Setsubun is a holiday that celebrates the beginning of spring! People throw beans outside of their homes or shrines to ward out demons and evil spirits, and welcome in good fortune!

Our very own demon came to our class! So, we had to ward it off by throwing beans at it!

We made our own beans out of news paper. Our teacher gave us big sheets to rip, and we crumpled them into small beans.

Crumpling is so good for developing our fingers! And we had fun making the paper into new shapes! The next day we practiced with fake demons, to make sure our throwing skills were up to par.

We learned the phrase "Go away!" to shout at the demon!

We even threw some at our teachers for practice. That was really funny!!!

Uh oh.... eventually the demon came!! She was actually really cute though 

We threw our "beans" at the demon until she got scared and left!

Bye bye demon!!! We hope that when you left, you opened the door to a beautiful spring ahead! We have had so much fun this year, and are really looking forward to seeing what the rest of the school year brings. We are growing up so fast!!
