Let's Make Boats! Will they Sink or Float? ☆ Small Kids
2025/08/26
Hello family and friends!
We've been spending lots of time in the pool lately, usually playing with our favorite toys like ducks, ocean animals, buckets, and more. But this week, we decided to get creative and make our very own boat to float in the pool!
It wasn't as easy as we thought, but it was lots of fun experimenting.
First, we chose which color straw we wanted for the mast - red or pink. Then we pushed it into the pool noodle, "Push, push, push." We then added a bright yellow sail, which we slid through the straw. To make our boats unique, we added our own faces, a flag and a sticker.
Once our boats were ready, we couldn't wait to test them during pool time. But… oh no! The boats tipped over and sunk!
Instead of giving up, we thought about what we could change. We tried shortening the straws, making the sail smaller, and adding extra pool noodles for balance. After many tries, we found that using laminated paper for the sails and adding another pool noodle worked. We finally got our boats to float!
We finally got to play with our boats. We made lots of splashes and even tried blowing on the sails to make them move. We were so happy we didn't give up and we kept trying to make our boats float!
Here's some more photos showing what we have been up to in Small Kids!
