Autumn Sun Catchers ☆ Small Kids

Autumn Sun Catchers ☆ Small Kids

2025/10/07

Hello family and friends!

As the days get cooler we’ve been noticing more yellow, red, orange and brown leaves outside. To celebrate autumn, we created our very own leaf sun catchers to brighten up our classroom windows.

We began by picking the leaf shape we liked best. There were three different outlines to choose from!

Next, we filled our leaf outlines with tissue paper. We had a choice of autumn colours—orange, red, yellow, brown, and a little bit of green. Instead of scrunching up the tissue (like we tried in another activity), this time we carefully placed each piece flat to create a stained-glass effect. We wanted the colours to really shine when the sunlight came through.

Then it was time for glitter! We dipped our paintbrushes into glitter and either dabbed or tapped them gently to spread it across our leaves. Some of us said, “One more time!” because we loved how shiny and sparkly it was.

The glitter stuck to our fingers and hands!

Once our leaves were colourful and sparkly, it was time to laminate them. We had to wait for the laminator to be ready. We listened carefully until we heard the “beep, beep!”

When it was ready, we watched closely as our leaf disappeared into the machine and came out smooth, shiny, and warm on the other side.

We invite you to come and take a look at our finished sun catchers in our classroom window. When the sunlight shines through, the leaves sparkle with warm colours.
