Experimenting! ☆ Kindy 3
2026/07/01
Hello, everyone!
Last week in Kindy 3, we did some fun science experiments in the classroom! We learned a three-step way to think like scientists.
1. What do we think will happen?
2. What really happened?
3. Why do we think it happened?
We did two experiments, "Will it Blow?" and "Will it Sink or Float?".
In the first experiment, we needed to guess whether an item would be blown across the classroom by a hair dryer, or would stay where it was. We started with light objects, such as a piece of origami paper, and then tested heavier objects, such as a wooden block.
Before testing each object, we made our guesses and talked about why. Then we tested each one and cheered when our guesses were correct!
Along the way, we talked about the difference between light and heavy objects, things that roll easily, like balls and toy trains, and objects that catch the wind or let the wind pass through them.
In the second experiment, we needed to guess whether an item would sink or float. Again, we made our guesses before putting each object into the water, and then checked to see if we were correct!
While testing our guesses, we looked for patterns. We saw that wooden objects float, while metal objects sink. Some plastic objects sink, and others float.
We also discovered that size and weight do not always tell us what will happen. For example, a large, heavy wooden block floated, while a small, light metal paperclip sank.
Everyone did a fantastic job thinking carefully about their guesses and explaining why they made them, as well as discussing why they were right or wrong. We are looking forward to more science experiments throughout the year!
