Little Learner’s on the move ☆ Kindy 2

Learning on the move! Learning doesn't always have to look like sitting on the mat for circle time or sitting at our desks for lesson time. Learning can be achieved through movement too, and the children absolutely love it.

This month we spent some of our lesson time learning through different ways like playing games out in the school yard, teams challenges in the gym, and fun 'brain breaks' in the classroom.

In September, our theme for math was learning how to tell the time. We integrated this learning into a fun game out in the school yard called "What time is it, Mr. Wolf?". The children who were not 'it' had to shout the phrase "What time is it, Mr. Wolf?" And the person who was 'it' had to choose a time, like "It's 3 o'clock!" and everyone had to count and take 3 steps forward. As they got closer, the wolf would say "It's lunch time!" and chase everyone back to the start.

In the gym, we played a team game and linked it to our double phonics. The children were divided into 3 teams. The teacher called out a double phonics, and the children had to race to find the correct one and tell the teacher what it was. Who ever got the phonic correct first, they got a point for their team.

We also played a favorite game called "Fruit Basket". The children were each given a picture card of a fruit, and there was one less chair than there were children. Whoever was 'it' had to decide to call out a specific fruit and then everyone who had that fruit had to get up and race to find a different chair. Whoever could not find a chair to sit on, they were then 'it'.

Children often don't even realise they are learning when they are having so much fun, and getting their bodies moving definitely helps them focus better and learn more!
